Counsellor and Psychotherapist
Esther is a relational-integrative psychotherapist working in private practice at Feel Good Balham. She has a BSc (hons) degree in Psychology, MA post-graduate degree in Integrative Counselling and Psychotherapy and is a registered member of the BACP (MBACP).
Esther believes that a strong relationship between the client and therapist is at the heart of the counselling process. Starting counselling can feel daunting so a safe, non-judgemental space in which you can feel secure, supported and understood will help you to explore and process the difficulties that you are experiencing. Your first session will be an opportunity to discuss what you are seeking from therapy, your history and a chance for you to see whether Esther is the right person to help you achieve your goals for therapy.
Esther adapts her empathic approach to your needs, applying techniques and understanding from three psychotherapy models: Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) techniques can be used to identify and challenge unhelpful patterns of behaviour, such as when phobia or panic attack disrupts your normal daily life. It may be that your current difficulties result from earlier experiences and relationships in childhood. Perhaps you find yourself in one difficult relationship after another, or perhaps you find yourself unable to establish lasting relationships with others. Esther will gently help you to explore your past without judgement, and to consider how it may relate to the issues that have brought you to counselling. Through humanistic values you are encouraged to discover your potential. You are the expert of your world. Through the unique counselling process, you will work together with Esther to help you to find the answers within yourself.
Esther comes from a background in the aviation industry, having first-hand experience of the difficulties of reconciling the demands of a career, family, and studies with life beyond the work place. As a psychotherapist, Esther has worked in a wide variety of counselling settings and has a broad base of experience. This includes working together with those experiencing anxiety, panic disorder, stress, bereavement, relationship issues, abusive relationships , PTSD, and most recently at The Priory Hospital with those struggling with behavioral addiction such as gambling, gaming or pornography, as well as substance and alcohol addiction.
