Cupping Therapy at Feel Good Balham

Cupping therapy has been used to heal the body for over thousands of years in human history, from ancient Egyptians, early Greeks, and in other Asian and European countries. The purpose of Cupping Therapy is to enhance circulation, move stagnation (pain) and remove “heat”. Cupping is particularly used to relieve muscle tension, tightness, pain, and stiffness. Typically used in Traditional Chinese Medicine, cupping works with your body’s meridian system to open any potential stagnation/blocked points for a better flow of Qi (energy). This will also help to rejuvenate specific meridians and organs that have or are not functioning at their maximum potential.

Cupping is suitable for treating:

  • Back/shoulder/neck pain
  • Improves circulation/blood flow
  • Sore muscles
  • Sciatica
  • Headaches/Migraines
  • Anxiety and stress
  • Nervous system/Immune system
  • Gastrointestinal disorders
  • Promote healing
  • Clear inflammation

During a cupping treatment, the practitioner places round cups directly on your skin. The cup is first heated with fire to create a suction, the intensity of the vacuuming sensation can be adjusted. Depending on the reason you come for cupping treatment, the cups will either be left in place for a period of time or can be moved around like a gentle massage. The treatment is painless and often soothing and rejuvenating.

Dynamic Cupping Therapy:

Dynamic Cupping (moving or sliding cupping) is the technique related to massage therapy.

During the cupping session, a practitioner will apply massage oil on your back, and place cups directly on your skin, the cups will be left on your skin for maximum 5 mins and then be moved around your back like a deep tissue massage.

Similar to traditional cupping, dynamic cupping helps in reducing pain, relieving stress, promoting relaxation, and increasing function, but especially increasing flexibility of the muscle.  Dynamic cupping is suitable for those who experience deep muscle tension or dense muscle knots.

Because the cups are constantly moving in dynamic cupping therapy, there are no lasting marks after the treatment, but possibly slight redness to the skin which usually fades within 24 hrs after the session. If you do not wish to leave any marks on your skin, please communicate with the therapist prior to the session.

*Please note that Cupping Therapy needs to be booked at least 8 hours in advance
