Integrative Children and Young People’s Counsellor

Salome Kohli is a BACP Registered Integrative Children and Young person’s Counsellor. She works with children and young people with many emotional and psychological difficulties. Her approach is empathic, attuned, playful and sensitive. She provides a non-judgemental, safe and confidential space, where children and young people can freely express and explore their feelings and the issues that are troubling them.

Salome works in an integrative way. This means that she uses a number of different counselling approaches and therapeutic models (Art therapy, CBT, Creative therapy, Emotion focused therapy, Integrative, Interpersonal, Play-therapy, Psychodynamic, Solution focused brief therapy) to meet the individual needs of each child or young person. For children and young people who find it difficult to express themselves emotionally using verbal communication, she offers a creative aspect to her therapy to enable them to reflect on and process their emotions and challenging experiences on a deeper level. She is skilled in using many different art media in sessions such as art, music, drama, dance & movement, bodywork, puppetry, poetry, clay, sand-tray, masks, imagery and play.

Through the counselling relationship and contained therapeutic space, Salome uses her skills to help children and young people make sense of what is going on in their minds, bodies, and lives – in a way that they can understand. She aims to help them to break down problems into manageable parts, so they can better understand and cope with them. She also helps them to explore and learn tools, techniques, and methods that can better prepare them for any challenges, and adversities they face – now and in the future.

Salome has a lot of work experience with children and young people aged 5 to 25 years within primary school settings, secondary schools and hospitals. Salome currently also works part time as a School Counsellor in a Secondary School in South London. Some of the issues she can help with include:

Offers

Salome offers a free initial telephone consultation with parent(s)/carer (or client) to discuss presenting issues and to get a sense of the world around the child/young person and their ongoing difficulties, developmental milestones and past history, including health issues and mental health risks she needs to be aware of. During the telephone consultation she also clarifies how she works and will answer any questions you have. The initial consultation is also an opportunity for her and you to decide if she was the right practitioner to work with your child/young person or you (young person self-referral).
