Gentle Release Therapy (GRT) is a deeply restorative complementary therapy. It uses light, intuitive touch to help the body relax, rebalance and release tension. The work happens at a profound level.
Inspired by Traditional Chinese Medicine, acupressure, reflexology, craniosacral principles and energy work, Gentle Release Therapy was developed in the UK. It supports the body’s natural ability to let go — physically, emotionally and energetically — without pressure or force.
Origins
Gentle Release Therapy was created by UK practitioner Helen Robinson. She drew on her background in Chinese medicine, energy therapies and bodywork.
The technique allows the body to soften and unwind naturally. Rather than working on the body, the therapist works with it. This encourages a quiet, receptive state where the body can process held tension, stress patterns and blocked energy.
Benefits
Clients often describe Gentle Release Therapy as soothing, nurturing and surprisingly powerful. Reported benefits include:
- Deep relaxation and improved sleep
- Reduced stress, anxiety and emotional overwhelm
- Relief from physical tension, including headaches, jaw tension, tight shoulders and digestive discomfort
- Improved energy flow and a greater sense of balance and wellbeing
- Support during times of change or emotional processing
- Enhanced clarity, emotional resilience and grounding
- Support for hormonal balance, including menopause, menstruation and fertility journeys
Because the touch is so light, the body can shift gently out of “fight or flight.” It moves into a state of rest, repair and regulation
Who Is It Suitable For?
Gentle Release Therapy is suitable for all ages. It is ideal for those who are sensitive to pressure-based therapies.
It may be especially helpful for:
- Individuals experiencing stress, fatigue or burnout
- Those who prefer gentle, non-invasive treatments
- People recovering from illness or living with chronic tension
- Clients seeking emotional support or grounding
- Anyone wanting a deeply relaxing and restorative experience
It can be used on its own or alongside other holistic or conventional treatments.
What Happens During a Treatment?
A typical session lasts 60 to 90 minutes, depending on your needs and the practitioner’s approach.
- Consultation
The session begins with a brief discussion. You can share how you are feeling physically and emotionally, and any areas you would like to focus on. - Comfortable Positioning
You remain fully clothed. You will lie on a massage couch, or sit comfortably if needed. Cushions and blankets are provided for comfort. - Gentle Touch Techniques
The therapist uses extremely light, still or subtle touch. Contact may be made on the head, abdomen, feet or shoulders. These points are chosen to support energy flow and release tension. - Natural Release
As your body responds, you may notice warmth, tingling or emotional softening. Some people feel a sense of “letting go.” Others simply drift into deep rest. - Grounding and Integration
The session ends with gentle grounding techniques. This helps you return to a calm and alert state. Many people feel lighter, clearer and more centred afterwards.
Gentle Release Therapy is designed to feel safe, nurturing and effortless. It creates space for the body to unwind at its own pace. Mental and emotional stress can soften naturally.
With regular sessions, many clients notice cumulative benefits. They experience greater ease, balance and resilience in daily life.
Aftercare
After your Gentle Release Therapy Treatment, it is recommended to allow time for rest and integration. Drink plenty of water to support energy flow and help the body process the treatment. You may notice continued sensations such as deep relaxation, emotional release, increased clarity, or shifts in energy over the following hours or days.
Listen to your body and move gently, avoiding strenuous activity if possible. Quiet reflection, light stretching, meditation, or time in nature can help deepen the benefits of the session. If emotions arise, allow them to pass naturally without judgment—this is a normal part of energetic rebalancing.
Each person’s experience is unique, and results may continue to unfold over time. Honoring this integration period supports lasting balance and well-being.
